Artist Statement: Richelle B. Kaufman

As an artist, my work is rooted in traditional and contemporary realism, with a focus on figurative painting. I create portraits and still life works, drawings in charcoal and pastels, as well as paintings in acrylic and oil. My training and artistic approach are grounded in the classical tradition.

I was fortunate to study with modern-day masters at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, following the same principles established in 1876 by Thomas Eakins and Thomas P. Anshutz. This enduring foundation continues to inform my work.

While my technique is rooted in realism, I consider myself not simply a realist painter, but an “emotionalist,” striving to convey deeper feeling and human connection through my art.

The ASK Program

I also work with young adults in the ASK Program (Assistance | Support | Kindness), an inspiring initiative that supports survivors of childhood cancer. Teaching art workshops within this community has been a deeply meaningful part of my practice.

I am honored to share this “Spotlight” with a young artist, Jamal Wallace, with whom I have developed a close bond through our shared passion for creating. As a member of the group I teach, Jamal has demonstrated a remarkable dedication to his work. We have been working together privately, and I am proud to showcase his art in this show.
