At 60, I find myself questioning the purpose of dreams that will never be realized. One answer has been to surrender to the creative drive within the resources I have—to make art simply because I am compelled to make it. Maybe this is not driven by a dream yet manifests a dream object reflecting the puzzling side of thought and experience..
Meanwhile, waking reality increasingly feels like a dream or a nightmare. We watch the world happen to us, feeling powerless to steer it, as even our artificial tools begin to hallucinate their own realities. Dream Not Dream explores this fragile space between acceptance, loss of control, and the creative impulse.
Biography
Ed Holten is an artist and curator whose work bridges multidisciplinary mediums and visionary arts leadership. Rooted in his foundational studies in printmaking and film photography at Towson State, he expanded his approach to making art at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), where he earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Sculpture. His career is highlighted by his recent tenure as President of Artspace in Richmond, Virginia, reinforcing his commitment to community arts advocacy and curation]
