Paula M. Delfs
When I am present in my walks and travels, I become aware of the shapes and lines around me - the light, and the shadows they cast. My art is a translation of that feeling of connectedness.
I often take photos for reference, yet the sense of wonder I experience in those moments is fleeting. My artistic practice allows me to return to that place of presence, weaving together those ideas, colors and sensations through a lens that is both spiritual and hopeful.
Watercolor is my primary medium, and I often incorporate other materials to complement the translucence and complete the intention of each piece. Standing, masking, measuring, marking, cutting, collaging, and/or layering become part of a meditative process – one that helps me reconnect with something larger than myself.
My recent works with circular forms reflect inner and outer worlds, a continual search for the oneness that is always present.
