Natalie’s Taste of Lebanon:
Alice Anne Ellis Tea in the Garden
May 23 - August 16, 2025
Artspace Satellite Exhibition at Natalie's Taste of Lebanon
2825 Hathaway Rd, Richmond, VA 23225
Artist Statement
Flowers in my garden and pieces of antique china inspired these pieces. It’s a celebration of flowers! Both the plants and the pieces of inherited crockery connect me to friends and family, reminding me of who gave them.
Even though we like flowers, and use them as decorations and gifts, we take them somewhat for granted. Looking at the designs on my aunt’s teacups has made me realize how carefully the creators of those patterns had observed plants and flowers. Despite stylization, leaf shape matches blossom, sepals and stamens are accounted for and what we have are portraits of flowers.
I hope this exhibition will make you look twice as you pass flowers, even if they are weeds - like those little violets that have invaded your border this year. Enjoy them all.
