VISUAL ARTIST MEMBERSHIP:

Artist Members or Supporting Artist Members: emerging and professional artists are invited to submit work to be reviewed and voted on by current members.  A few of the membership perks: opportunity to apply to exhibit frequently; gallery commission on sales is only 25% (45% for non-members); free use of Artspace facilities; connect with like-minded, supportive artists.  

PERFORMING ARTIST MEMBERSHIP:

For musicians, writers, dancers, poets, and other Performing Artist Members, perks include: gallery affiliation; access to rehearsal and performance space; sell merchandise at performances; free use of Artspace facilities. Applicants apply through recommendation by a current Artspace Member. 

ASSOCIATE ARTIST MEMBERSHIP:

Artists and emerging artists (18 or over) who are interested in assisting in the administration and operation of Artspace but who may not wish to apply as Artist Members. Privileges include invitations to Artist Member events and field trips, and approved use of the gallery for a private event. Apply through the link in the Associate Artist Member section below.

If you would like to apply for visual or performing artist membership—send an email to Paul (Buddy) Terrell buddyterrell@gmail.com AND artspaceorg@gmail.com with the following:

1. Name, mailing address, email, telephone number

2. Website 

3. State the category of membership for which you are applying (Artist Member or Supporting Artist Member or Performing Artist Member) 

4. Attach your Artist Statement 

5. Attach your Résumé 

6. For visual artist applications, attach EIGHT titled images (use the title in the file name) 

7. Attach a list of the image descriptions (title, size and medium) 

8. Deliver 3 wall-ready/display-ready pieces of artwork to Artspace to be viewed by members at the next monthly Members’ Meeting. Please label your pieces with your name, title and medium. You may pick up your artwork after the Members’ Meeting. 

9. Print and sign the appropriate Artspace Contract: Artist Member Contract or Supporting Artist Member Contract. Please deliver the signed contract to the gallery with your artwork. In the event of your application not receiving approval, the form will be returned to you. 

10. New applicants are welcome and encouraged to attend the next Members’ meeting to discuss their application and meet current members.

Artist Membership Categories

ARTIST MEMBER | SUPPORTING ARTIST MEMBER | PERFORMING ARTIST MEMBER | ASSOCIATE ARTIST MEMBER

ARTIST MEMBER - $35 per month

Professional artists who determine and participate in fulfilling Artspace's mission. New candidates are selected and voted in after having images and work presented to and reviewed by the present membership. Terms last a minimum of one year.

PRIVILEGES:

• Voting rights on all matters before the membership

• The opportunity to apply to exhibit at Artspace every 18 months (as opposed to every 48 months for non-members), in shows of four (4) or less, upon acceptance of exhibition proposal by the Exhibition Committee.

• Gallery commission on sales is limited to 25% (45% for non-members)

• Discounted exhibition fees when applicable. Exhibition fees are indefinitely suspended due to the success of our annual Fundraising Auction beginning with our 2017 season.

• 10% Discount on artwork purchases

• Exhibition opportunity in all members exhibitions at the gallery and other arranged locations

• Opportunity to use the Artspace name as Gallery affiliation (i.e.: press or grant applications)

• Opportunity to use Artspace facilities for personal use such as mtgs., parties, etc. (when available as not to interfere with the regular operating schedule or paid rentals.)

• Included on the Artspace website, artspacegallery.org

• Free admission to Performance Series events (discounts to special events where applicable)

• Participation in all social activities for Artspace Members

• All works are insured while they are in the Gallery's possession ($250 deductible)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Membership fee of $35 (paid monthly or yearly). Dues must be up-to-date to be considered in good standing.

• Members are expected to staff the gallery for a minimum of 36 hours per year, to be arranged according to the member’s availability. Time spent staffing openings is equivalent to staffing the gallery during regular hours. (If member is unable to staff the gallery due to other commitments, he/she is responsible for arranging another Artspace-trained member or volunteer.)

• Serving on at least one committee

• Attending at least 9 monthly Members' Meetings per year (one to include the Annual Meeting). Members' Meetings are customarily held on the second Thursday of the month at artspace.

• Supporting Artspace by attending Opening Receptions and events.

SUPPORTING ARTIST MEMBER - $65 per month

Professional artists who wish to support Artspace through financial means rather than working support, and who wish to have continuous exhibition opportunities. New candidates are selected and voted in after having images and work presented to and reviewed by the present membership. Terms last a minimum of one year.

PRIVILEGES:

• Voting rights on all matters before the membership

• The opportunity to apply to exhibit at Artspace every 18 months (as opposed to every 48 months for non-members), in shows of four (4) or less, upon acceptance of exhibition proposal by the Exhibition Committee.

• Gallery commission on sales is limited to 25% (45% for non-members)

• Discounted exhibition fees when applicable. Exhibition fees are indefinitely suspended due to the success of our annual Fundraising Auction beginning with our 2017 season.

PERFORMING ARTIST MEMBER - $15 per month

Professional Performing Artists who wish to support Artspace's mission and assist with the operation of the Gallery in exchange for Gallery affiliation, rehearsal space, and reduced dues. New candidates are recommended by current Artist Members and voted on by the present membership. Terms last a minimum of one year. Duties and Responsibilities vary on a case-by-case basis.

PRIVILEGES:

• Voting rights on matters before the membership, not to include visual art exhibition related votes or new visual artist members

• Opportunity to have a yearly performance at Artspace (subject to scheduling approval by gallery administration)

• Opportunity to sell merchandise at at Artspace during regular operating hours, openings and events (where applicable)

• Commission on merchandise sales through the Gallery is limited to 25% (where applicable)

• Opportunity to perform at Opening Receptions or special events

• Opportunity to use the Artspace name as Gallery affiliation (i.e.: press or grant applications)

• Opportunity to use Artspace for personal use such as mtgs., recording, rehearsal, etc. (subject to scheduling approval by gallery administration)

• Included on the Artspace Web-Site

• Free admission to Performance Series events (discounts to special events where applicable)

• Participation in all social activities for Artspace Members

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Membership fee of $15 (paid monthly or yearly). Dues must be up-to-date to be considered in good standing

• Sitting at least 5 times per year (If member is unable to sit due to other commitments, he/she is responsible for hiring or switching with another sitter.) Time spent staffing openings is equivalent to gallery sitting. If member is unable to sit due to other commitments, he/she is responsible for hiring or switching with another sitter.

• Attending at least 8 monthly Members' Meetings per year (one to include the Annual Meeting). Members' Meetings are typically held on the second Thursday of each month at artspace.

• Serving on the Performance Series Committee

• Opportunity to serve on other committees

• Supporting Artspace by attending Opening Receptions and events

ASSOCIATE ARTIST MEMBER - $20 per month

Artists and emerging artists (18 or over) who are interested in assisting in the administration and operation of Artspace but who may not wish to apply as Artist Members. After reading the privileges and responsibilities below, new Associate Artist Members may sign up by providing your contact information and your first month’s dues payment here.

PRIVILEGES:

• Opportunity to assist in the administration and operation of Artspace, thereby learning about running a nonprofit

• Opportunity to be a non-voting committee member

• Invitation to Artist Member field trips, critiques, and member meetings

• After a year of involvement, may apply to the Executive Committee to use the gallery once a year for a private event

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• $20/month dues

• Attend a brief orientation at the gallery.

• Support Artspace by attending Opening Receptions and events when convenient.

• Support Artspace by signing up for duties (at receptions, installations, de-installations, staffing, or special events) when convenient.

ON-LEAVE ARTIST MEMBER - $160 per year

Professional artists who were one time artist members of the Gallery and who wish to support artspace’s mission, but cannot be involved in the operations of the Gallery. Must be an active artist member to change status to “On-Leave.” These members may return to participating membership without reapplying. They also support the Gallery through financial assistance and by being community spokespersons. Terms last a minimum of one year.

PRIVILEGES:

• An open invitation to attend the monthly Members’ Meetings held on the Second Thursday of the month - No voting rights.

• The opportunity to apply to exhibit at Artspace every 18 months (as opposed to every 36 months for non-members), in shows of four (4) or less, upon acceptance of exhibition proposal by the Exhibition Committee.

• Gallery commission on sales is limited to 25% (45% for non-members)

• Discounted exhibition fees when applicable. Exhibition fees are indefinitely suspended due to the success of our annual Fundraising Auction beginning with our 2017 season.

• The ability to reactivate full-time membership without reapplying

• Open invitation to Special Members’ Meetings, and Members’ social activities

• May be invited to exhibit in Artspace exhibitions in the gallery and at other arranged locations

• Opportunity to use the Artspace name as Gallery affiliation (i.e.: press or grant applications)

• All works are insured while they are in the Gallery's possession ($250 deductible)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Membership fee of $160 (paid yearly)

• Supporting Artspace by attending Opening Receptions and events.

COMMUNITY MEMBER

The purpose of Community Members is to assist Artspace in accomplishing its mission by providing independent, community-based input in the form of services and other support.  New candidates are recommended by the current membership or the Governing Board and must be approved by the Executive Committee. Terms last a minimum of one year. Duties and responsibilities vary on a case-by-case basis.

PRIVILEGES:

• Participation in all social activities for Artspace Members. An open invitation to all Artspace meetings, openings and special events.

• Opportunity to use the Artspace name as Gallery affiliation (i.e.: press or grant applications)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participation as a Supporting Member of artspace.

• Attending at least one Artspace Member Meeting per year.

• Advising artspace, when requested, on policies, practices, procedures and projects.

• Supporting Artspace by one or more of the following:

  • Serving actively as a member of an Artspace standing committee

  • Contributing significant time or expertise in an independent function on a major Artspace project during the year.

  • Purchasing works of art in Artspace exhibitions.

  • Attending Artspace performances and monthly exhibition openings as often as possible.
