PushingtheLimits is a biennial exhibition held at artspace gallery in Richmond, VA. The show aims to expand the definition of fiber work within contemporary art while providing a venue for established and emerging artists to exhibit. Multi-media, video and installation work will be considered.
artspace reserves the right to refuse to exhibit or to remove from the exhibition any work which is of poor quality, contains hazardous material or which has been misrepresented in the entry form or digital images. All accepted work must include an entry form. No accepted work may be picked up before the closing of the exhibition. Work for sale is highly preferred but NFS pieces will be considered. The gallery retains a 33% commission on all sales. The gallery will not be responsible for loss or damaged work in transit to or from artspace.
PushingtheLimits 2012 will be juried by Katherine Shaw. Shaw attended North Carolina School of the Arts in the early 1990s. In 1997 she received a BFA in Sculpture with a minor in Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University. Shaw received a MFA in Sculpture with concentrations in Printmaking and Textiles from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1999. Katie currently resides in Richmond, VA. She is curator to the Flippo Gallery and Adjunct Professor of Art at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA. She has exhibited her work at university and non-profit galleries in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Brooklyn, NY.

Calendar of Events
- Work submitted must be innovative and original in design. Work derivative of other artists or work created in a workshop with the aid of an instructor is not acceptable.
- Submissions must have been completed after July 1, 2009.
- Artwork shown locally within the past year does not qualify.
- Open to all professional artists working in fiber. This may include mixed-media, video and installation. Artists must supply their own technology.
- There is no size restriction.

Entry and Exhibition Fees
The entry fee is $30 for up to two artworks. (Per image = One full and Two details of each artwork.) You may pay using Personal Check made out to artspace Gallery. Your application will not be finalized until the entry fee has been paid.
Instructions for Submission: (please use this as your checklist)
Please submit on CD with your name on the disk. Title each piece with your last name and then the title.
Example: FieldAlvarez_Decay and FieldAlvarez_Decaydetailone.

Note for formatting image:
Overall and two details (or close-up) images of each piece (1000 pixels on the longest side and JPGs only)
Images should be no larger than 2 megabytes
Please include an Image list with the following information:
Use either a Word document or a PDF file for your artists statement and include it on your CD.

Artist statement of no more than 200 words

Exhibition labels will include the information as it was originally submitted on the entry form (artist's name, title of artwork, date of artwork, medium, and dimensions).
Artwork must be delivered ready to install.
Please include detailed installation instructions or photographs of how the piece is to be displayed. This is espeically important if the work has multiple elements. Artists creating work that involves elaborate on site construction and installation must be available to place as well as dismantle their work within the gallery. Any additional related costs are the responsibility of the artist.
The artist is responsible for all costs of insuring and shipping their artwork in both directions. Work should be shipped in a substantial, reusable container. artspace will not be responsible for damage due to insufficient packing. All work will be handled with care and returned in the original packing material. Include any pertinent packaging instructions as well as hardware if you have special hanging requirements.
Artwork will be insured while at artspace gallery and will be in effect for as long as the work is part of the PushingtheLimits 2012 exhibit. artspace is not responsible for work when it is in transit to and from the gallery.
