Growing up in a musical family and having studied and performed music in the classical tradition, I was surprised by the world of contemporary fiber art in 2006. I dove into this new creative medium and found delight in shedding predictable patterns and stretching to create something less familiar. Iím drawn to the movement, form, colors, and textures of indigenous and hand dyed textiles. Spending hours at the design wall, quickly pulling and cutting fabrics, coming back in short stretches, is the process that challenges, transforms, and draws me in. Raw edges and loose threads express my view that imperfection is beautiful. Plus, life is never tidy.
