Artist Statement

One night a few years ago, while in the process of closing up the workshop, I saw the scattered parts of a clock on my work table. Imagining what it could become, I began putting random parts together, intending to get back to it later.

But, the creative spirit thought otherwise and the process continued to it's conclusion two hours later.

The final piece became a beautifully designed and functional instrument made of the chimes from an old clock, a random piece of odd shaped wood, and found objects.

The FOUNDPUNK "Clock Chime Instrument" is the 27th piece created under the concept.

"Breaking Antebellum" is a piece created from metal found objects and mounted to a stained and finished wooden base.

In the current political environment and the rise of Confederate sympathies that romanticize the Civil War past and the flag it represents, "Breaking Antebellum" is a response to those who choose to undermine and dismiss the roll slavery played and illustrate the breaking from that past and the prevailing romantic notions of it.
