Joseline Ntirampeba, Age 14
"Wind Claw"
illustrated by LISA LEVINE

I have a bike. Her name is Wind Claw. Sheís beautiful and strong. Her lines are perfect, her chains never break, and she has a very glossy red paint coating.
I received her when I was three. Even though I was too young to even ride her, I still went on her and rode away. Through the skies, through the heavens, Wind Claw can slash through anything.
Each night, I say goodnight to her, kiss her an imaginary kiss and say a good-luck prayer to her.

One morning, I went to check up on Wind Claw like I always do. But - she wasnít there! I awoke my mom and told her that Wind Claw had gone missing. Mom just told me to go back to sleep.
I cried. I cried and cried and cried until Mom got up and understood my problem. Mom and I searched for Wind Claw from morning until the afternoon.
I cried.
Mom told me that we could search some more and perhaps make signs. That cheered me up, but I still cried.

The next morning, Mom and I woke up bright and early to search for my bike. We made signs and hung them everywhere we could. And we also asked around.
As the day ended, it was time to go home. But I wanted to look more. When Mom and I came home, we ran into Wind Claw!
She was in the front yard the whole time! Mom asked me why I didnít search there. I told her I did, but she wasnít there at first.
