Amy Nichols, Elliston, VA

With it's lovely blue hues, use of light, and contrasting textures Oolong is indicative of the Dutch Masters. A curious assemblage brought together as a narrative, its message isbuilt upon the artist's intent. Historically, still lifes are symbolic, relying on a multitude of elements. The individual pieces have a direct message or a more subtle meaning. Together, the image allows the viewer to read them literally or superficially. Oolong’s exploration begs one to read the words of Arnold Bennett. "The proper, wise balancing of one’s whole life may depend on the feasibility of a cup of tea at an unusual hour."
