Noëlle Gray will have her series Edge in the Main Gallery. These irregular weathered steel forms often combine glass, wax, and wire. Noelle States: "I carve irregular forms out of steel, creating the emotive foundation for each piece. I find surface texture irresistible; I expose the steel to the elements, and using various techniques, orchestrate rust. The textural contrast of the recessed glass, wax, and wire build depth and structure. The ensuing canvas becomes coarse and rigid with pockets of tranquility. A negotiated balance between palette and surface is imperative to my work. I use hot and cool colors in contrast to heighten tension and increase vibrancy." Noëlle I.K. Gray is a self taught painter, photographer and sculptor currently working in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. For the past several years she has developed her technique utilizing a wide range of materials to create abstract and figurative work with an emphasis on physicality. She has shown in Maryland, Ohio, Massachusetts, New York and Virginia and her work is included in private and corporate collections in Virginia, Florida and California.
