Jennifer Blazina, Washington, D.C., received her M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield, Michigan, and teaches printmaking in the D.C. metropolitan area. Her current artwork explores her maternal lineage by incorporating images of her mother and grandmother from various rites of passage such as weddings and confirmations. Distorted and repeated, the photographs become removed from the original events; the photograph of the bride is a generic image rather than a document of the wedding. By presenting photographs of her family as icons, her work asks not only "Will I become this?" but "How can I not become this?"
