Richmond's Unique Music Scene Haunts Artspace

Tulsa Drone
"Tulsa Drone"
RICHMOND, VA - The best of Richmond's avant-garde music scene performs at Artspace for an evening filled with dark melodic tunes on Friday, June 21, 2002. Artspace welcomes "Them Against Them", "Tulsa Drone", and "Plasmodium" with DJ sets by "ENE". Film projections and loops will also be shown throughout the night. "ENE" opens the doors at 8:00pm, and the first band begins at 9:00pm. Admission is $6 at the door, and a cash bar will be available.

Lovers of eclectic music will be rewarded with an evening of some of Richmond's best and most popular performers. "Them Against Them" includes Paul Watson on guitar and Phil Murphy on lap-steel guitar, performing improvised instrumental works. "Tulsa Drone" is a recent collaboration between guitarist Erik Grotz, Peter Neff on bass hammered dulcimer, and Jim Thompson on percussion. This trio brings a fresh yet haunting atmosphere to their brand of original music. Thompson also appears with musician Bob Miller in "Plasmodium." Electronic wizard ENE (Scott Hudgins) warms up the audience before and between sets.

Artspace is a nonprofit gallery for the visual and performing arts, promoting the understanding and appreciation of contemporary art. Artspace is open Wednesday - Sunday from 12:00 - 4:00pm and by appointment. Admission is free to the public. For more information call Artspace at 804-782-8672 or go to www.artspacegallery.org.
