A NON-PROFIT GALLERY FOR THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS
SEPTEMBER 2002 |
September 6-29, 2002
Friday, September 6, 7:00-10:00pm
The Richmond ONE/OFF Printmaking group will exhibit a series of One/Off
prints at Artspace gallery (6 East Broad Street) with an opening
reception, September 6th from 7 to 9 o'clock. The exhibition runs
through September 29th. Thirty members will participate in the show.
One/Off is an English printmaking term meaning a unique print made from a
fixed image made on wood, stone, linoleum, zinc , copper or
silk-screen. Mixed-media elements such as collage, monoprint or varied
manners of inking or manipulating an etched plate, woodblock, linoleum
block, lithographic stone, or silk-screen make these images variable,
unique and inventive. The prints developed this way show printmakers at
creative play; they are not trying to develop a consistent edition of
prints from a single image but making creative adaptations around a
fixed design for a One/Off print.
The exhibit will also feature the "Art*O*Mat" machine which will
dispense original art blocks made by 20 members of the ONE/OFF group.
After visitors have made their selection (each art block is five
dollars), they pull a lever on the machine originally meant for
dispensing cigarettes and a block of original art drops out, wrapped in
cellophane. This is a unique manner to build an art collection and much
better for your health then opening a pack of cigarrettes. For more
information on the exhibit, contact Artspace gallery, and for the
Art*O*Mat machine see the website at: www.artomatic.org.
