OVER 100 ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD PARTICIPATE IN FUNDRAISING EXHIBITION

RICHMOND, VA - Come dressed in your best and join us for a sneak peak at the "Think Small! International Miniature Invitational Exhibition" Gala Preview on Thursday, November 1, 2001 from 7:00-10:00PM. Be the first to purchase from hundreds of works of art and sample treats from some of Richmond's finest restaurants, caterers, bakeries, and micro-breweries. Attendees will be honored with a special performance by, renowned pianist, and Virginia Commonwealth University Music Professor, Russell Wilson. Call Artspace at 804-782-8672 by Wednesday, October 31, 2001 to reserve your tickets at the advance price of $15. Tickets can be purchased for $20 at the door. One drink is included with admission. All proceeds from the Gala Preview fundraiser benefit Artspace.

The Gala Preview features "many mini" works of culinary art from these fine establishments: A Moveable Feast Catering, A Sharper Palate Catering, Baker's Crust Bread Market, Barracuda's, Chef Jim McCarty, Chez Foushee, Davis & Main, Easy Street, Jean-Jacques Bakery, Konsta's, Kuba Kuba, Limani Mediterranean Grill, Main Street Beer Company, Montana Gold Bread Company, Nacho Mama's, Stella's, Sticky Rice, Thai Diner Too, and The White Dog. The "Think Small! International Miniature Invitational Exhibition" and Gala Preview have been made possible by the generous support of The Sydney & Frances Lewis Foundation, Jordan Kitts Music, B.W. Wilson Paper, Chiaroscuro Art Services, Shockoe Bottom Arts Center Studio 131, and Ms. Sarah Walter.

"Think Small! International Miniature Invitational Exhibition" features over 100 local, national and international artists that have accepted the challenge by curator, Chuck Scalin, Professor in the Communication Arts and Design Department at Virginia Commonwealth University, to create original works of art no larger than 3 inches! Artists from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Mexico, Sweden, and Qatar create both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional works, including, painting, sculpture, book art, collage, and craft mediums.

Artspace and "First Friday/On & Off Broad" invite the public to a free opening reception on Friday, November 2, 2001 from 7:00-10:00PM. Music will be provided by, Jones, Kuhl & McCavitt. The exhibition continues through Saturday, December 22, 2001.

Also opening on Friday, November 2, 2001 in the upstairs Skylight Gallery is "Mental Block Party," the eccentric black & white and color photography exhibition by local photographer, Gordon Stettinius. His exhibition continues through Sunday, December 2, 2001.

Artspace gallery is located at 6 East Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23219. It is a nonprofit gallery for the visual and performing arts, promoting the understanding and appreciation of contemporary art.
