Author Reads From New Book of Spanish Poetry
RICHMOND, VA – Artspace Gallery, located at 6 East Broad Street in downtown Richmond, invites the public to a book signing and poetry reading by author, Maria Espiritu, for her new book of poetry, "Solo Paginas," on Saturday, February 17 at 4pm. Ms. Espiritu’s reading will be in Spanish and English.
There will be a presentation by Nico de Leon with a musical performance by Carlos Pozzi, Henri Maizels and Jose Pomier. The event is free to the public.
Maria Espiritu was born in Lima, Peru. She studied Foreign Languages at the Universidad "Ricardo Palma," in Lima, and the Moscow State Pedagogical University of Foreign Languages, becoming prolific in English, Spanish and Russian. Currently, Ms. Espiritu teaches Spanish at the Montessori School and Philip Morris, Inc. She has been awarded pilot Project grants from Virginia Partners in the Arts as well as touring grants from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. She is the founder of KASWA, a Latin American dance troupe promoting goodwill and education between the Hispanic community and other ethnic groups. She has also worked as a translator and civil attaché for the Peruvian Embassy and Consulate in Moscow. For more information call Artspace at 782-8672
