Who and What: New Works by Marian Hollowell and Jean Kellogg
GOD - NATURE - SPIRIT - HUMANITY - WONDER
Whether on matboard, canvas, or paper, her magical characters speak through the language of symbolism and take on lives of their own. We are drawn into their performances, where we observe the poet, the dancer, the musician, the magician, the seer... some dressed in jewels, some rusted, this one clustered, another sparse. Ms. Hollowell's works convey her limitless approach to life and her exploration of God, spirit, nature and humanity through her art. Her works have been shown widely and may be found in private collections throughout the nation.
Ms. Hollowell is a founding member of Artspace and its performance series, which she has led since it's inception. She will be giving a performance of her own poetry with Lawrence Proman in their tenth annual event of "Everybody Play Nice" on November 18 at 8 PM. This event is free with a reception to follow.
Jean Kellogg will primarily be exhibiting oil and acrylic paintings, and drawings. Her recent art is greatly influenced by Appalachian roots, dream imagery, family, nature, and the many wonders of existence that shape reality.
Ms. Kellogg is the invited guest of Marian Hollowell in this show, and a former member of Artspace from it's early years. She holds a BA in Art from Marshall University in Huntington, WV, and has most recently participated in the local arts community through her work for the Children's Museum of Richmond, and art instruction at local preschools.
She is an aspiring children's author/illustrator, and seeks to return to commercial design and illustration as her primary occupation. Her work has been shown in NY, MA, VA, NC and WV, and is held in both continental and international collections.
